NUA Cohorts

One of the ways that NUA Mentors have worked with Osseo Area Schools is through a cohort model. Through this model, a select number of elementary schools receive additional, ongoing, and responsive professional development from an NUA Mentor. In this model, two elementary schools are paired together to work with an NUA Mentor who intentionally focuses on the inclusion of culturally responsive instructional strategies, modeling, coaching, and observations of the daily practice of educators.

All cohort sites are supported by the Department of Education Equity led by the director Dr. Rev Hillstrom.

The 5th grade teachers at Elm Creek Elementary school taught students how to build their own NUA notebooks, calling them toolkits.  These notebooks served as places not only for content but also strategies that students could reference when woking.  Using the notebooks helped students recognize that they could be empowered to choose and use strategies to process information across content areas.
